Little reference from a book called “We Want You Here”

A church in South Florida was struggling. Not many guests showed up each week. The members were frustrated and discouraged. It was not a joyous time at the church.

Then the pastor began to talk to many of the members about the challenges. What he heard was not what he expected. One of the questions he asked each of those members was, “ when our church was really a great place to be, what was taking place?“

He expected them to talk about a certain attendance level or the implementation of some of their favorite programs but that’s not what the people told him. Let me try my best to re-create a conversation Pastor had with one of the church members, a conversation reflecting most of those interviewed. “Pastor,” The seventy-four-year-old woman began, “it’s really easy to pinpoint the days when I was most excited about this church. It was when I could walk downtown, and I would hear from people outside the church say how much the ministry of our church meant to them. Our focus was on the community, our focus was on the schools, the hurting, yes and those who were not followers of Christ. So much of what we were doing was outside the walls of our church.”

That Pastor stopped her. “Say that last sentence again,” He said and so she repeated it. “So much of what we were doing was outside the walls of our church.

That is it, he thought. That’s what is missing here. So the church began focusing more and more of their efforts and ministries on “the others” instead of themselves alone. They then began to make a difference, a big difference.

That is the heartbeat of our church. We want to make a difference outside the walls of our church. We want to be difference makers.

The story above is the ministry attitude the fellowship fund is looking to support. We plan to finance the promotion of the activities the global church does beyond the physical walls enabling this to be an entry for others in the community. We want to help through technology to give the church a future and the general public an invitation to love in action.
